BIOS Version A13 & "Not Enough Memory" Error when loading KBE during scripted install

I just ran into this on a new batch of Latitude E6420 latpops.  I tried another suggestion in a forum post to rebuild the KBE, as well as other things (power cycling K2000, reseating laptop's memory), but continued getting the error when the KBE was attempting to load:

Not enough memory to load specified image

This was true even with the default x64 KBE that comes with the K2000. 

The issue turned out to be due to the BIOS version (A13) - downgrading to earlier versions (A08, A12) resolved the issue and my scripted installs are running fine now.  I believe engineering will look into this, but for anyone else in the same boat this should get things working again.

  • Support is going through the process of trying to replicate this now (I believe it happens on e6520's as well). Once replicated we will report the issue.

    • Is there any progress on this issue? We are getting this issue with E6420's with A13. As out medium term plan is to ship them to remote sites with no IT support and get the users to simply PXE boot to setup, having to downgrade the BIOS each time is a major setback. (I know we culd send them a USB or CD boot sidak, but they would only lose them) - bradlsi01 12 years ago
  • Just ran into same issue with new batches of both Latitude E6420 and Optiplex 990 that came with A13 bios. Downgraded the E6420 A12 and the 990 to A10 and issue is resolved. Reported it to Kace support and they were not aware of the issue and will let engineering know. - bozadmin 12 years ago

  • A coworker was getting the same error on an E6520, I7, 4GB ram. This is happening before loading the images. It happens during the PXE boot after selecting the 64 bit.
    He upgraded from version A13 to A14 and it is working. - drohweder 12 years ago
