KACE k1000 assets Dell Service Tags

For a few of my computer assets, I've found that the Dell Service Tag that pulls automatically from PC's with agents is wrong.  The KACE agent pulls the Service Tag and places it under "Barcodes" in a computer asset.  I am wondering, how can I delete this service tag note?  It will not let me edit it.  I would like the agent to pull the correct tag from it.  What can I do here?

On an additional note, I have at least one PC with 4 Service tags, listed under "Barcodes".  They appear to have been "scanned" all at different times.  What can I do to "Scan" these computers so that they pull the right Tag?  Why are there false entries for Service Tags, and what can I do to delete the ones that are incorrect?

On Dell devices the barcode contains the service tag.
And since it is unique (except someone did something wrong, i.e. an onsite tech replaced the system board and did not enter the correct TAG) it is a good idea to keep this predefined key there.
Other vendors are the same and at least HP + Lenovo will be handled like that in the future (the collection of service is already implemented in the 9.0 version but other functionality will come soon)

At first you should check which systems have the wrong tag and why (replaced system board or manually set tag over a tag tool, which should not be used by end users)

  • Thanks for the response Nico.

How does one manually set a tag? The tag tool? Is this something in KACE? - someguyontheinternet 5 years ago
    • Could I rerun Inventory.exe on the machine, or something of that nature, to have it find the correct Service Tag for the machine? There are quite a few machines in deployment that have multiple Service Tags, for whatever reason. I would like to wipe these, and run whatever it is that scans for the tags, to make sure it finds the correct tag. - someguyontheinternet 5 years ago
