MSI Error Log
Trying to distribute a package thru SMS 2003. Syntax and conditions selected...
msiexec /i app.msi TRANSFORMS=app.mst /q
Run Only when a user logged on
Run with administrative rights
Download program from Distribution point
It works if the user is a local admin but this is not an option, needs to run under standard user. I've tried all the alternative options to do with the settings I've described above but to no avail. I attach the error log, any advice would be appreciated thanks.

- The key to tracking errors in logs is to find the text 'Return value is 3.' The lines surrounding that text will be thiose connected with the error. In this case, we're looking for ISStartup (a Custom Action commonly used in InstallShield-authored MSIs)
- Use AppDeploy's Search facility or Google to look up the error connected with that Custom Action. I'll give you a clue as to what you're looking for: "Launching" versus "Interactive".

This is a known problem. If you skip ISSCRIPT.MSI exection, you will get this error.
Option1: Try adding a property to your MSI command line ISSETUPDRIVEN=1
Option2: If the problem is not solved, try runing the ISSCRIPT.MSI first and then your app MSI.
Option3: If this also do not solve the problem, you have to hack the ISSCRIPT.MSI to install using the launching user instead of interactive user.

How else would, for example, the 'ISMsiServerStartup' action have succeeded?
If this also do not solve the problem, you have to hack the ISSCRIPT.MSI to install using the launching user instead of interactive user.Instructing people to alter vendor MSIs is poor advice. To advise them to "hack" them beggars belief, frankly. Always, ALWAYS use a transform to make changes to vendor MSIs.

Thats a property that is called if the isscript is missing. and anyway, this line says-
Action start 18:20:59: ISStartup.
1: The InstallScript engine version currently installed on this machine is adequate.
An easy way to get around this is to install isscript9 first.
If you are not going to author the MSI to exclude isscript, add isscript9 as a pre-req in the SMS job.
