Sysprep fails after 1 restore

Using the k2000, I build a base image that will be used on number of different models, so no drivers. I sysprep the image and capture the image immediately thereafter before the pc boots into windows. I use /generalize /oobe /shutdown. My answer file is pretty basic, set locala admin account, windows key, and skip rearm.

Now, I set my system image parameters, mainly just driver install since I am still trying to get it to work right. Image gets restored and drivers get install. Then the machine restarts and goes into its first run mode and finally into windows.

this works ONE time and then fails every time after that. When it fails, the pc is stuck in "setup is starting services".

If I reinstall windows and sysprep and capture again, the image will again only work 1 time. Even if I try different models, it will still only ever work 1 time.

Never had this issue when I was using Altiris 6.9, same answer file was used.

  • I had a similar issue a while back, and it ended up being that there was a file in "C:\Windows\Setup\scripts" that was hanging things up. After I removed the file, my image worked again. - nheyne 10 years ago
  • Was the file inserting itself? I never put one in that folder myself. I made sure to leave it out. - jon.schwende 10 years ago
