Sysprep Surface Pro 3
Do I need to sysprep a Surface Pro 3? When I used the Kace Sysprep Creator/Executor, I noticed there is no c:\Windows\panther folder. Since I couldn't copy the unattend.xml file to the panther folder, the executor didn't execute.
If I use the Windows version, my post-install tasks (join domain) fail.
Any assistance would be appreciated -- thanks!

what version of windows OS? we skipped win8 but win10 eliminated the panther directory under windows. put the file in windows\system32\sysprep, open a cmd window as admin and change to that directory and type sysprep.exe /oobe /shutdown /unattend:fil.xml - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago

I bet that is why there is no panther there. 8.1 is more like 10 then 8.0 - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago

Thanks, I'll try this. - lnovak 8 years ago

you cannot use a surface as a master you must cast to it.
What I found you need to add the dongle drivers to the windows image so when it comes out of sysprep it will reconnect to network to run the post task.
I used a usb 3.0 hub when I did some of these units. connected that to the surface and hooked a KB, Mouse, the UEFI boot stick and a dongle to it. I made sure the surface (including the usb driver) and dongle drivers got copied to c:\windows\inf prior to coming out of the pe env. When if started its post sysprep pass it found the network and ran all my post tasks.

I don't understand what you mean by "cast to it". I harvested the drivers, including the network, USB and dongle. I was able to capture and deploy the tablet image. I was told my Kace support that I needed to sysprep (referring to desktops and laptops) the computers in order to get the post-install tasks to successfully execute. Right now, they're failing. - lnovak 8 years ago

glad you got it to capture, thats cool. I do not think it is due to the fact you did not sysprep. I have been able in the past to capture and deploy a non sp'd image and still have tasks run. All kace really does is creates a directlry name c:\kace and put the post task there with a kengine and they add a comand to the run to launch the engine - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago
