Update Dell Optiplex 760 BIOS?
It seems that the A02 BIOS for Optiplex 760 is flawed, and pretty much incapable of running windows 7. The K2 doesn't seem to be a great way of updating the BIOS seeing as the PE is based off of windows 7, and so I was wondering how to otherwise install Dell BIOS updates?
EDIT:
I created a windows PE bootable USB and executed the file O760-A08.EXE as suggested here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?c=&l=&s=&cs=&DriverId=R277162#3DOS
When I restarted the computer, the initial splash page indicated the system was still A02. What am I missing?
Update:
I was able to have more success by getting the .wim for windows PE 2.0. The Vista version.
A13 is actually the latest version.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=R310689
I boot to PE and run the executable. It prompts asking if I would like to replace A02 with A13. I say yes. It lets me know that it is going to replace it and reboot. I say sure, yes thank you.
After the popup windows go away, I am back at the cmd prompt with nothing else happening. The computer does not restart. This seems a bit troubling as I would expect the computer to actually restart.
If I manually restart, I find that it does indeed try to upgrade the BIOS with the message "Attempting BIOS update -- this may take up to 10 minutes"
One attempt took about 20 minutes, is says:
BIOS Update Failed!
ME Firmware Update Successful
Could Not find the firmware image in memory.
I tried a different BIOS version with the same results. I have no idea what is going on here.

Answer Summary:
I used the CCTK to modify a Vista PE. I put that PE on a flash drive and booted to it. I executed the O760-A13.exe file from the command prompt, clicked ok twice. I then closed the cmd prompt window. I stepped away for a moment, and when I came back I found that it had indeed upgraded the BIOS to A13. I will be attempting to replicate this as we get more 760s in, but this seems to be workable enough.

Try placing the bios update pack into \\IPOFK2\petemp then boot machine into KBE go to Recovery > Command Prompt > Change Drive Letter to t: > Execute the .exe

I have done that. The .exe runs without any message or error. When I restart I find that the BIOS is still set to A02 - muebel 12 years ago
