When slipstreaming a Win7 SP1 disk, do the updates (after sp1) need to be installed in a specific order?
Running 5.4
Slipstreamed a win7 disk with update to Jan '13, this was successful and went flawlessly. Uploaded it to K2 and created bare bones install to test the media and process. Got as far as the mid-level install driver feed which installed successfully. I got the following Error message:
"Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then re-start the installation."
No other info is displayed. This happened twice on the same machine and on a different model (Dell 960 and 790).
Thoughts?

You got the error before or after you left KBE? Also, what did you use to slipstream updates? I usually recommend something like Rt7Lite or using WSUS Offline, as I have had success with both of those.
Does the source media install outside of Kace?

I've seen MS updates do this in the past, although I was never able to zero in on which update was causing it. Check out wsusoffline.net to build an updates package you can then copy to the target machine and run as a postinstall task. - mpace 11 years ago

Ok....So I think I figured part of it out, I was trying to install(slipstream) some updates that were not in .msu format. Will be making another attempt today. - gargone 11 years ago
This idea may work for you and it how we make our media for K2000, it's not an offline solution like rt7 but it works well and allows you to do more customization to your source media.
Using a VM apply all windows updates, we also install a few non licensed pieces of software. Once you have it all set up the way want run sysprep with generalize and oobe. name the wim file as install.wim
Extract windows 7 media and replace install.wim from the sources folder with your custom .wim and remake the iso. Upload that as your source media and K2000 will take it no problem.

This method actually still utilizes a scripted install. All we are doing is replacing the default install.wim that is contained on the Win7.iso with our custom .wim and then recreating the win7.iso with our update .wim in the sources folder. - matiasm 11 years ago
