Distrubution Options ?

I have an application that need to be distributed. Either as a .exe or a .msi file, that is not my concern yet. The question is what are recommended ways to deploy an application? It looked to me like the users would have to buy SMS server if we used that, this will not work if it is the case. Also, I would like to be able to support Win98-2003 so that means I might not have active directory.

Is there something I am missing from this? All I need is a way to get the application/install onto client machines, and then execute it. Any ideas and help is greatly appreciated!

Certainly there are many good options, but so often the available budget determines what is chosen. Can you give us some information along those lines?

Well, actually, I am wanting to program a solution that remotely installs an application. Cost is not a consideration here because I cannot purchase a third party application to achieve this.

What I have is a listing of machines that are on the domain, through Active Directory Services. Now I would like to programmatically get the installation to the list of machines.

Thanks for any ideas.

Create a silent installing exe and call it from the login script. How you do the login script is up to you.

You can take a look at Matrix42 Empirum Pro but if you don't want purchase software
that might not help you too much.

Personally I am using Unicenter Software Delivery, but if U want a free solution, try W2k Server ability to Publish/Assign software... If U want some info, go to http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6270-1061213.html
