Do the Name fields in Assets and Inventory have to match when manually creating asset items?
I am working on adding our printers to assets with agentless inventory via SNMP and am wondering if I can name items in Assets different and have them tie together via serial number. This will allow us to sort things out and not have a messy mix of items all mixed together once we have workstations in assets and inventory....

As far as I know, the name from the asset and the name from the inventory must not match. - svmay 8 years ago

The names do not need to match, the thing to bear in mind is the link between Asset and Inventory which is found within the Asset type of Device. You can join the inventory record to the asset record using any field within the asset type. As such the "perfect storm" for Asset management control, would be for the machine name to be anything appropriate within Inventory, linked via the serial number to thee asset.

sbaxter,
In the KACE Kontinuing Education (KKE) Recording: Asset Management Lifecycle (English) (152973) KKE, we cover how to ensure that Inventory <-> Assets properly relate when manually adding Assets prior to their dynamic appearance in Inventory/Assets modules.
