This software was originally authored by Symantec, but is now owned by Best Software.
Version 7.x is out, but Act!2000, (a.k.a. version 5.x) will run on 2000 and XP. Updates are available at:
http://www.act.com/support/updates/index.cfm?
and will update Act!2000 and its executable to 5.0.4.495, the latest available. You will have to create an account to get to the download page.
The re-packaging into .msi format using WPS was fairly straightforward. However, having good exclusion knowledge or a good list is important The four updates mentioned above and the two reboots they require create a lot of clutter.
Instead of individual files they contain, five merge modules should be included in the package:
C:\Program Files\Symantec\ACT!2000 (or whatever installdir you chose)

It appears to be incomplete, though, as I found that the folder paths noted above also needed rights opened up. I discovered these using the standard NT File Monitor and NT Registry Monitor methods.
