If you need to upgrade the VMware tools for your virtual machine you can use the following steps to mount the iso inisde the VM and upgrade
First, upgrade your virtual machine to the latest hardware version:
- Make sure that the machine is powered down.
- In the VMware Server web interface, select the virtual machine from the Inventory panel.
- Click Upgrade Virtual Machine in the Status section of the workspace.
- Click OK to confirm that you want to upgrade the virtual machine. Do not power the machine back on yet.
- Then, change the Guest OS from "Other (x64)" to "FreeBSD (x64)"
- In VMware Server web interface, select the virtual machine from the Inventory panel.
- In the Commands section of the workspace, click Configure VM.
- In the Guest Operating System section of the General tab, select "FreeBSD (x64)"
- Power on the machine.
Lastly, we will install VMware tools:
- In VMware Server web interface, select the virtual machine from the Inventory panel.
- Click Install VMware Tools in the Status section of the machine's Summary tab.
- If an earlier version of VMware Tools is installed, click Upgrade VMware Tools.
- This will mount the ISO in the VM, so we can install it via the machine's web interface.
- Login to the web interface of the machine by accessing it by hostname/FQDN or IP address
- Click on Settings & Maintenance > Appliance Maintenance > Edit > Update VMware Tools
- Once the Update Status shows that it has completed, reboot the machine.
