MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., - Aug. 14, 2003 - Marimba, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRBA), the Software Change Management Company, today announced that its automated patch distribution capabilities have helped a number of companies rapidly respond to the spreading Blaster worm virus. Leading Global 2000 companies that have recently used Marimba patch management technology to protect their computer systems against the Blaster worm include Charles Schwab, Albertsons, Washington Mutual, Verizon, Amgen, Barclays Global Investors, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Capital One, Deloitte Consulting, MCI, MetLife, and others.

Companies affected by the current Blaster worm or who have other security concerns can immediately contact Marimba's security hotline for information about patch management and security remediation at 1-888-800-5444, or visit the company's website at www.marimba.com.

During recent virus attacks, such as the Blaster worm found in many of Microsoft Windows platforms, Marimba's patch management technology deployed critical updates to tens of thousands of desktops, servers, and intermittently connected laptop systems. The Blaster worm, also known as MS Blaster or LoveSan, has been spreading rapidly and Microsoft has issued a patch to address the worm. The worm exploits vulnerability in the Windows RPC (Remote Procedure Call) service and consumes bandwidth while scanning for other vulnerable machines once a PC is infected.

"Using Marimba security patch management, we were able to package, test, and distribute the Microsoft RPC vulnerability patch to all of our global desktop clients in a matter of hours," said Simon Bullers, global platform manager, Windows systems, at Barclays Global Investors. "We have desktop clients in the United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. It's great to be able to turn around this patch in such a short amount of time and feel confident that our systems are protected."

Rapid Deployment to Computer Systems to Protect Against Blaster Worm Marimba's enterprise customers across a variety of market segments have used Marimba patch management to quickly deploy hot fixes and updates, eliminating downtime associated with application and network failures. Marimba's security patch management capabilities automate the deployment and management of anti-virus software and security patches by quickly delivering security hot fixes and updates to thousands of desktops, laptops, servers and devices. Marimba's stateless updating technology allows patch dependencies and conflicts to be resolved during the automated patch installation process. In addition to proactive protection, Marimba's technology can help with remediation of damaged or infected applications and lower downtime associated with virus attack damages through built-in repair, rollback and self-healing capabilities.

A number of large, global companies are using Marimba's software to manage and distribute business-critical security patches and application updates to protect browsers, Web servers, applications, and computer systems. Customers leverage Marimba's existing software change management offerings

to address their patch management needs from a single platform/console.

"The need for security patches - and the frequency with which they're issued

- becomes increasingly urgent each day," said Rich Wyckoff, president and CEO of Marimba. "As security breaches become more frequent and more expensive to prevent, enterprises are looking to automate the rapid deployment of anti-virus and patch updates. Marimba products streamline the delivery and installation of security patches and virus pattern updates to protect computer systems."
