MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 2002--Lanovation®, maker of best-of-breed software deployment solutions, today announced the implementation of Lanovation Prism Deploy® by Robinson & Cole LLP, one of the largest law firms in the eastern United States. The Lanovation packaging and deployment software allows the IT staff at Robinson & Cole to efficiently perform software installations and updates to remote offices along the eastern seaboard with near perfect reliability.

Robinson & Cole selected Prism Deploy during their upgrade from Windows 95 and Office 2000 to Windows 2000 and Office XP. Along with the operating system upgrade, Robinson & Cole needed to install varying combinations of about 200 software applications. “Because the law we practice varies so widely, our software needs also vary greatly,” said Dave Heck, Systems Integrator for Robinson & Cole. “To handle this diversity, it became clear to me that Robinson & Cole would need a software deployment tool that actually worked and had a lot more power than the tools shipped with Windows 2000 Server,” he said.

Robinson & Cole chose Prism Deploy to assist with the packaging and distribution of software applications to their desktop and laptop computers. Prism Deploy automates the installation and updating of software on every computer in the entire organization, no matter where the computer is physically located. Using Prism Deploy, Robinson & Cole was able to automate the installation of software applications to six offices from their main headquarters in Hartford, CT. The Prism Deploy Channels enabled them to set up a unique deployment Channel for each location. This allowed them to receive unique, site-specific deployment tasks by pulling packages from a server geographically near them. With minimal effort, Prism Deploy Channels enabled Robinson & Cole to “fan out” their deployment to lessen the network traffic back to Hartford.

“The time we saved configuring the marketing department’s machines alone paid for Prism Deploy. We had initially scheduled nine days for this task, but completed the entire department in less than one day,” said Dave. “The Prism Deploy software is one of the best deployment software packages I have used in nearly 15 years in the IT field. The ability to edit the package file by inserting additional files, removing files and creating custom messages makes it a very powerful tool,” he said.

According to Jackie Vece, Robinson & Cole’s Network Administrator, ease of use, speed and reliability were especially important in the tool they chose. They had only a couple of months to complete the entire update, and she was pleased with the results they received with Prism Deploy. The speed at which they were able to build packages for the printers, for example, was “As fast as you can type!” said Jackie. “It’s just so intuitive and we never even needed to use Lanovation technical support once!” she continued.
