Metro Systems, Inc. is seeking a Software Packaging Engineer for one of our clients in Washington, DC.
This is a technical role that is primarily responsible for preparing and maintaining application packages and related deployment tasks (evaluation, development, testing and deployment) of COTS, GOTS and OS level patches to the client environment. The current system environment is configured with Microsoft Windows Vista 32Bit / Windows 7 64Bit and Microsoft Office Professional 2010. Standard tools used to facilitate the centralized environment management include, but are not limited to, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2007 SP2 R3, Symantec Wise Package Studio 8 and Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.6.
DESCRIPTION:
Repackage new/upgrade/patched COTS, GOTS, OS/application patches, ActiveX controls, etc., and deploy into the environment.
Repackaging tasks, including evaluation, configuration, scripting, virtualization, testing and deployment.
Complete tasks associated in the following in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager components: Software Distribution, Software Updates, Software Metering, Desired Configuration Baseline, Mobile Device Management, and Operating System Deployment.
Conduct the installation, configuration, testing and operation of Microsoft Deployment Toolkit.
Draft technical documents and work with the technical writer to formalize the clients desktop standards, installation details, processes and procedures, standard operating procedures and knowledge base related to personal computer configurations.
Develop and maintain the desktop and laptop standard images for the client.
Assist with the maintenance of software media, licenses and customization settings.
Assist with Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC)/United States Government Configuration Baseline (USGCB) testing, implementation, configuration, maintenance and compliance.
Provide third tier support for escalated Customer Support Center trouble calls.
REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. in Computer Science or a related field, with six years general experience and four years specialized experience.
Experience in creating documentation for audiences varying between technical and non-technical users and management.
Experience in supporting helpdesk escalated issues (Tier 3).
Experience in application/patch repackaging/scripting, with the purpose of deploying and maintaining OS/applications centrally.
Experience with Microsoft Active Directory Group Policy Objects.
Experience with Application Virtualization and sequencing tasks.
Acquired knowledge of application repackaging tools such as Wise Package Studio, Installshield, Inno setup, etc.
Acquired knowledge of scripting actions using VB, common batch, wise script editor, etc.
Acquired knowledge of System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT).
Acquired knowledge of the implementation, administration and maintenance of the Symantec Ghost Server solution.
Acquired knowledge of inventory management software.
Acquired knowledge of Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) / United States Government Configuration Baseline (USGCB) compliance.
Acquired knowledge in performing analysis and design of baseline desktop images (Desktop and Laptop Windows Vista/Windows 7).
Acquired knowledge of creation and maintenance of Microsoft images (Microsoft Vista/Office 2007 desktop image deployed company-wide).
Acquired knowledge in performing research analysis of hardware and software to support needs that relate to the desktop computers.
Acquired knowledge in performing research and analysis of new technology availability as it relates to desktops, such as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
Acquired knowledge in the planning, testing and implementation of desktop/laptop tech refresh initiative.
