• I personally would like to see IT Ninja rival Spiceworks for relevance to the Sys Admin. I'm seeing that IT Ninja does show bias to Dell KACE (which I am grateful for as a KACE Admin), and this seems to turn a lot of would be Sys Admins away because they get a vibe early on that the site won't be useful unless they are a KACE Admin. This is an aspect I'd like to see change because this site could use the added volume and cumulative experience from all walks of systems management and administration. - GeekSoldier 11 years ago
  • Excellent call, thank you. I'm happy to say we are thinking the same way. The site seems bias toward Dell KACE primarily because of the number of its users leveraging the site (and to a lesser degree because Dell KACE sponsors it). The goal is to be less KACE focused and more appealing to the greater IT Pro community. Thus far we have attempted to help separate things via tag based browsing and raising visibility of the software knowledge base which is definitely relevant to all. It is (and will continue to be) a primary goal of mine to ensure the site is widely relevant while taking care not to diminish the value to Dell KACE customers.     • Thank you for the response. That is one thing that IT Ninja will always be better for. In the other online communities it is nearly impossible to figure out who is actually in charge or taking ownership of the community. Here I don't see that becoming a problem.     • Perhaps another way to benefit the different walks of SysAdmin would be to provide a bonus badge for SCCM, Novell, Altiris, LanDESK, and the like so users of these products can identify by profile information and form their own "subdivisions" within the community. Then IT Ninja would appear slightly less KACE biased while retaining support value and give added incentive for other sysadmins to join. - GeekSoldier 11 years ago
• While I think developing badges for the many systems management products available would be a huge effort I fear many not be appreciated by enough members, it does remind me of an earlier plan to let members list the tools used on their profile which may serve to provide a similar benefit.
