Adding and dynamicly modify this file to an existing msi

Hi at all.
I need to add a INI file to a existing msi and I need to modify one value that should contain the computername
of the installed client.

Thanks for help in advance.

MSI service holds a built in property of ComputerName which is replaced by target computer name at install time.

Import your ini file using Wise INI Files tab. Replace the Computer name field with [CoputerName] property i.e;

My Computer = [ComputerName]

Remember ComputerName property is case sensitive.

You can also use the systemvariable %COMPUTERNAME%, but this veriable is in fact being translated in windows installer to the ComputerName variable.....just some information

If I try to edit this File (dsm.opt) as Ini file, wise is prompting for the associated section.
My file doesn´t have any sections, so I tried to promote it as a normal file, with %computername% instead of the clientname. But Tivoli does not translate the variable into the clientname.
Is there any way to edit a normal textfile?

Hi Lennie,

Sounds to me like you will have to use a custom action with either wise script or vbscript to edit the appropriate line in your dsm.opt file at the end of the installation.

Good luck,
Rob.
