Appdeploy Repackager Missing Executable

I recently used the Appdeploy Repackeger for the first time and ran into a bit of an issue. During the creation process, I am asked to define an exe as a target for the shortcut (there seems to be no option to disable a shortcut). However, the main exe for my program does not show up as an option. I thought this was strange so I went back to the screen where it shows what was found in the snapshot of the system files and I see that it did not detect the exe at all. While that is still up, I browsed through program files and confirmed that it is indeed there. Is there a reason/easy fix for this? If I choose a different random exe I can create the msi and install it, but I have no way of running the program becuase the main exe is not included. Any help here would be great!

I was able to build a silent install by following the instructions at http://it.megocollector.com/?p=13 The only thing that I changed was that I didn't follow anything past step 4. Since, I was using the k1000, I knew that it would auto unzip the zip file and then I just had it manually run the "RunProgram" command from step 5 of the above link.
You can add your main exe to the created msi using ORCA..

You can try another method like virtualizing the package with http://www.cameyo.com/ and then making it into a deployable MSI with http://www.advancedinstaller.com/
Do you have no alternative to repackaging? What is the specific application?
Thanks for the responses! Sorry, this was a complete error on my part. I was working with winzip 9 because there seems to be no msi provided and the exe does not take any parameters for a silent install. I did discover that the orignal uninstaller pops up a window saying that the main exe in program files will be deleted after a system reboot. My assumption is that I uninstalled at one time, closed that message without doing a reboot, and then came back some time later and built the msi while that file still existed so the repackeger didnt pick up the change. Not sure exactly if this is true, but after manually deleting the program files folder I was able to repackage the application successfully with the exe included. However, there still seem to be a few issues. During the install I get 2 error messages every time:
The PID changes in these each time I do a different isntall. I can choose to ignore these and the program seems to install correclty, but this defeats the purpose since I want to do a silent unattended install. I also noticed that after the install there are 2 entries in add and remove programs for Winzip. If I try to uninstall them, I get the third error that is in the attached document. I can resolve this by killing msiexec in my processes and continuing the uninstall. Any advice?

Thanks for the links! The first one wasn't an option because we are just using the free evaluation version, but the second one worked perfectly. I had to alter it a little bit, but was able to get it to work! Do you know if this method works for all programs? - horstj 11 years ago

It most likely will not work for programs that require intense registry entries but for small apps it should do the trick. Note that Line 34 of the cmd file created in step 2 has switches specific to winzip.exe. - mpace 11 years ago
