Application icon does not show up on XP after running repackaged legacy containing msi.
Hi all,
I am having this issue where I repackaged a legacy setup into an msi. After running the MSI, the application icon appears on all OS except Windows XP. To see or launch the icon from XP I have to go to ProgramFiles\Application. What do I have to do in order for the icon to show up under all programs in Start Menu as it does for Win7 and Vista.

Windows Installer can place the shortcuts based on the privileges of the account performing the installation. Check your ALLUSERS value as it does respond differently for XP. See http://www.itninja.com/question/allusers-1-or-2 for a discussion on this.
It is most likely the path to place the icon in the all users start menu is off when you repackaged it.
I actually found out that under System Configuration - Shorcut Section by moving the Kobo shortcut icon from [CommonAppDataFolder]Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Kobo\ and moved it to Shortcuts\Taskbar\Start Menu\Programs Menu\
So I dd that, built the msi from ism tested on all OS including XP, and now I can see the icon in the start menu. Thanks to jagadeish, SMall.tmcc and bkelly for all your input.
