Deploying Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1
Hey there,
i need do deploy microsoft collaboration data objects 1.2.1 (link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3671) via group policy as msi package. I tested the software deployment on 2 different machines, but the msi package does not install at all.
When i installed the MSI manually, the program works fine.
I tried the following things:
1) i tried to deploy the original unmodificated MSI package - no success.
2.) since there is an EULA Agreement which needs to be accepted, i tried to edit the MSI Package with ORCA - looking at the "Property"-Table there is no Line or Entry named "ACCEPT_EULA" or similar which i could set to yes. So i tried to add the lines ACCEPTEULA/ACCEPT_EULA/EULA_ACCEPT manually but the installation still did not work.
3.) i have executed msiexec /a to run an administrative install. the installation windows is popping up but vanishes within a second. then i tried the same thing again, but this time with logging the administrative installation. Here's what i got:

The log states that the software has been installed successfully, but this is wrong; it was NOT installed, i was not even asked to accept the eula or to define the path of the program and where the network image should be created. Also the Logging ends exactly the same second it was being started (14:43:30).
Since i cannot create an administrative installation i don't know what to do else. Do you have any suggestions?

First of all, Do not edit vendor msi's directly.. Instead you have an option to create TRANSFORM (.mst).. You can use Orca to create transform.. or else you can pass the property with it's value through command line also (hope it is public property)
The log file you have provided is for Admin Installation only.. Admin installation will not install your application..
Why don't you create verbose log (/L*V) for the installation

I hope you are assigning this application to the user via group policy..
The assignment won’t take effect until the next time that the user logs in. When the user does log in, they will see that the new application has been added to the Start menu and / or to the desktop right.. Are you checking it correctly? - jagadeish 12 years ago
Sorry don't have a VM with Outlook 2007 on it... So I am just shooting some guesses.
When you say "no success", do you mean actually nothing? No add/remove entry etc? Or just the filesaren't created? After a failed install search for a file, gapi32.dll is a good one... It could have installed just in the wrong place.
There is a CA in both UI/Exec sequences that change the TARGETDIR property to "[CommonFilesFolder]\system\MSMAPI\[SystemLanguageID]"
CommonFilesFolder is not set in the directory table, I also didn't see its path in the second log posted. I would guess that it could be installing as system (via gpo right), which is causing issues with the TARGETDIR property being set and thus the files aren't installed or go somewhere weird.
I have seen msi's do weird stuff run as system, when the TARGETDIR=INSTALLDIR goofyness is used.
I would also do a manual install and find out what path = [CommonFilesFolder]\system\MSMAPI\[SystemLanguageID]. My XP machine is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
Then install via gpo again and add the property TARGETDIR="PATH FROM MANUAL INSTALL" to your mst.
If that works, you then can work on a more elegant solution.

The log which you have given says that Installation Operation completed successfully. How are you saying that your installation has failed?
If you run the MSI silently, it automatically accepts the EULA so you need not worry about it.
