Help with MSI (Microsoft Installer) error 1619: This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and is accessible, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

Often this error is seen as a result of insufficient access to the installation folder.
One visitor offers, "You can (also) see this error when you try to do an update of the MSDE 2000, using the wong sqlrun msi/msp file."

And for you SMS folks - did you revise your source & remember to update your DP's with the new source?

Another thing that can cause this error 1619 is if you try to install the package and you have the MSI open with Orca. Because Orca opens the file explicity, nothing else can open it - thus the 1619 error. To solve this, check to make sure that the MSI is not being edited with Orca. If it is (e.g. applying a transform to a vendor MSI), close Orca and try again.

Empty Admin password can also cause this error.
