What deployment solution are you using? - terebent 11 years ago

Hey! I've got a great idea! We'll just guess what sort of script you're looking for, what your preferred scripting language is, what your deployment mechanism will be, whether you're expecting people to produce this work for free...

I guess I jumped the gun on this one, huh? We have a KACE 1000 appliance. We just setup VSI-Fax Server v6.1 and our user community wishes to use the LanFax client software for the email-to-fax functionality. I was looking for an easy way to take the executable LanFax client file and install it on our office pc's. I haven't worked with KACE 1000 scripting or software deployment yet so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. - rficere 11 years ago
I'm not familiar with this particular application, but best practice is usually to use a managed install.
First, install the application on a system that has the KACE agent on it. Force a check in so that it updates its inventory. Check to see that the application shows up as sometimes they don't. If it doesn't you need to create a software inventory item that uses a custom inventory rule so that the K1000 knows the software is installed.
From there, find out how to install the application from the command line. That will usually be the install command you would use in the managed install.
P.170 in the admin guide shows how to configure MIs: http://www.kace.com/support/resources/~/media/Files/Support/Documentation/K1000/v54/K1000-Admin-Guide-v54.ashx
There are a few examples of managed installs here on ITNinja as well as some videos here that should be helpful: http://www.kace.com/support/resources/kb/article/kace-kontinuing-education-k1000-and-k2000-recordings
