K1000 - Compare software with smart labels

Hi Everyone,

I'm still a beginner with the K1000, so I appreciate your help in advance.

I work at a university and we use K1000 to deploy software to our computer labs. At the moment I am trying to find the best method for comparing software between smart labels (we use smart labels, one for each lab) or even between devices in K1000. I'm assuming I'd have to target both "Installed Programs" and "Discovered Software" for each group of devices. Would I just need to create a report for this or is there a built in feature that addresses this kind of task?

Apologies if there's already a forum/admin page outlining this (I haven't found it myself).

P.S. - The environment I'm targeting specifically is on Windows 10. Please let me know if you need any other details.

Thanks again!

here is one I created and we can adjust it to what you need

  • Thank you very much for the screenshots! I have almost the same information filled out except at the end I'm trying to filter two different labels (with two different filters of course). If I only choose one smart label (using the contains operator you've suggested), the results are displayed properly. As soon as I add the second filter (for comparison), the report shows nothing. Is there any other way to draw up the comparison? - momothefruit 5 years ago
    • to put either labels in the filter you need to create a rule set ("or" filter), if you add a second line that is an "and" filter. see other answer for screens of this. - SMal.tmcc 5 years ago

target just installed.

I work at a college and what we do to see if a certain piece of software is on the requested machines is to open the detail on the software item vs report (takes less time).

Scroll down and all the machines are listed.

You can create a software report for each software item and show the devices or you can create a device report and show all software items.

  • Thank you for your response! I think what would work best in our environment is to create a device report and show all software items but.. I still don't quite understand how to do it by label.

I am at the point where I've selected what I think needs to be included:
    Topic: Device
Fields to Include: System Name, Label Names, Software title and Software version

And then I tried the filter: Label Name = <name of smart label> for both smart labels.. but I think I'm supposed to be using a different filter. How do you target a specific smart label for the report? - momothefruit 5 years ago
    • try "contains" instead of "=" for "label names" filter criteria. - SMal.tmcc 5 years ago
      • the label name is a string of multiple labels
see this example of one of my machines label name

        Machine Name:
        AANAYARDMT212A
        Lable Name:
[!NBK|MBK, All computers, Dell windows bios, Dell Windows OS no servers or excludes, intel test run, Machines needing cleanup, Machines OK to patch (all desktops minus excludes), Machines OK to patch Java, Machines OK to shutdown at 11 pm, Machines OK to shutdown at 7 pm, machines on the 32,33 subnets, machines without Java8u66, Ok to run shoretel autostart, RDMT 2nd Floor 33 Subnet, RDMT all, RDMT ALL with Exclude, Windows 10 LTSC, Windows 10 Machines, windows 10 machines to upgrade, Windows 10 os, windows machines needing petya vaccine, Windows OS, windows OS no servers, Windows OS no servers or excluded ws, windows OS no servers or Programmers, Windows OS no servers, laptops, or excluded] - SMal.tmcc 5 years ago
      • Still doesn't generate the list of software - in fact it's on a loop as it tries to make the report. I'll fiddle around a bit more.. - momothefruit 5 years ago
