Keeping 3rd party apps up to date

Greetings!

I recently joined an IT consulting company that is starting to use KACE for all their clients pc's.

As the new guy, I am being tasked with figuring out patch schedules, etc. for all the pc's we have connected to our kbox. I did some searching but wasnt able to find exactly what I was looking for.

Here is what I need to do:

Have a system in place that will update Adobe Reader, Flash, Java, Chrome, and Firefox whenever updates are available.

Set a schedule for those updates to be deployed (what is the best practice, once a week, once a month?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated! If you know of any articles offhand that you could link me to, that could help as well! It is entirely possible this was already answered in a multitude of posts, but I thought I might try to see if I can get a direct answer.

Thanks in advance!

  • Also want to point out that yes KACE will absolutely pull updates for those programs you specified. Some general basics that we follow are only do updates in off hours, usually weekends. It's generally smart to update only a small subset of your computers first just to make absolutely sure there are no bad updates. After that fire away. - AFCUjstrick 10 years ago
