Just purchased HP c6180 wireless printer. Laptop xp....great, desktop(old) 98...great BUT...desktop xp cannot connect. Get the 1603 error when installing CD for the printer. I've been all over the net searching for fix...HELPPPPP! Tried the %temp%, tried the Launch user for Installshield change, tried the unreg/rereg....nothing works.
BUT...when I just install the basic print software...that completes
Checked the IP adress in config port....fine.
Just the damn thing cannot connect to print.

Enable verbose logging or install with verbose logging and see what error it gives you as 1603 doesn't say that much except for "Fatal error", something did go very wrong ;)

ok....here's the full error

Now launching=x\hpznfx01.exe/rerun 1.1xxx-f
x.\Drvins??.Dat
MSI install ()failed 1603
x:\netfxmsi failed with return code 1603
error returned from process
exit code 1603

I might add that when I was installing the CD for the HP complete suite
for the c6180 wireless most of the programs installed when I did them
individually. Only one not installing was Document Viewer 7.0.
Also the error popped up when the Net Framwork was loading. I have SP2
installed as well.
I can't outright recall but...there was something else when the Recovery Point
was loading too.

what a mess...ug

Wellllllll
I hate to bring this up............ITS FIXED!!!

It was stupidly easy.

Friend of mine told me last night to try the Microsoft Installation CLEAN UP UTILITY.
That did the entire trick.
