Office 2003 icons did not migrate to Office 2007
We are testing migration from Office 2003 to Office 2007 Professional Plus.
1. Office 2007 did not replace the previous word, excel icons on the desktop with the new Office 2007 icons (Now, there are no icons on the desktop)
2. After upgrade, office 2003 Files (excel, powerpoint, word) open to Office 2007 versions, but the icons of those files still remain the same as Office 2003. Icons for those files did not get upgraded to the office 2007 icons.
3. Quick launch icons also did not get replaced.
(Now, there are no Office icons in Quick launch)
Not a deal breaker, but would like to find out if I am missing something?

1. That's a good thing! Icons for apps don't belong on the Desktop but on their own Start/Programs/[whatever] menu.
2.
- This could be due to our old friend, the Windows icon cache. Try deleting that file and restarting Explorer.
- Was any 2007 shortcut used before you determined this behaviour?
- Was the machine restarted?
2. & 3. You will, of course, have logged the install to determine what features were installed.

Hi Aek:
have you tried installing Ms office 2007 with a transform created using ORK (Office resource kit 2007)? If you have'nt done it yet, I would ask you to do so coz sometimes the fresh installation do not upgrade the office 2003 rather it replaces the file and does not upgrade the same. However you can create a transform and then select upgrade option from there and see whether this works or not.

Office 2007 doesnt use an ORK. It uses the setup.exe
Also, if you dont use a transform and just run setup, Office 2007 removes the previous version by default.
AEK.
The Office setup does not create desktop icons by default, so you'd have to add them in the OCT under "configure shortcuts".
