Problem with Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Standard?
I'm working on Adobe Acrobat Standard. I'm done with everything and package works as expected.
The issue is In Client's base Machine Adobe Reader is already Installed. When we install Adobe Acrobat Standard in the same Machine and when we launch any PDF File it opens with adobe Acrobat Standard. But Client wants Adobe Reader to be the Default to view PDF's.
So what I did is edited msi of adobe acrobat and removed .pdf from HKCR. Still it doesn't work?
Any solution?
Thanks in advance..

There are properties (IW_DEFAULT_VERB or LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP) for this which can be found also in their website:

I believe there is also an option for that in the Adobe Customization Wizard (the tool that Adobe created to customize all aspects of their install via an MST)
Make sure you use the tool for both Acrobat and Reader and set which one is the default PDF reader in both. Otherwise, the last one installed will win.
Where I work now, we do it where users can only have one or the other. If they have Acrobat then they cant have reader and vis-a-versa.

There are other tables involved in file association, e.g. Extension, MIME and Verb. How you go about fixing the issue depends very much on which tool you're using. If memory serves, you're a Wise Package Studio user? WPS presents a unified view of associations so removing that of ".PDF" with the Acrobat Pro executeable will be a one-click fix.

Hi VB, I used Adobe Customization Tool to create MST. However, we have access to Admin Studio too. Do you know how to do the above using Admin Studio. - vinodreddy10 11 years ago
Check all of the settings, I'm sure it's there somewhere. - dunnpy 11 years ago
Take a look at http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Wizard/Customization%20Wizard%2011%20for%20Windows.pdf
