Repackaging Veritas BackUp Exec
Hi,
Has anyone here repackaged Veritas BackUp Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers? It comes with an MSI and a 1033.mst.
I will edit this mst file using InstallShield AdminStudio 6.0 Tuner, I would like to install the Administration Console only, but the feature names are quite cryptic. All suggestions welcome here!
Thanks.
Mitch

Update:
After contacting Veritas Technical Support (which is free if your question is related to installation of the product), they proceeded to tell me that MSI installation of there product is not supported and to run the install from setup.exe
I ended up just taking a snapshot with InstallShield Admin Studio 6 and customising my own MSI file with the Editor. I just get the Admin Console which is what I originally wanted and works well.
NOTE: If you do the same make sure you check the registry settings esp. HKCR as not all the keys seem to come across.

Mitch,
You will find that most vendors – if not all – will not give support for repackaging of their software, which is one reason AppDeploy exists.
Do you have a large number of servers on which you need to deploy BE? If so, I would leverage your Veritas maintenance to find out what strategies they have developed and will support for wide deployment.
Since BE is already in .msi format, repackaging it is all but a no-no. I feel this is especially true when talking about backup software. If something isn’t going right with backups, you want to make sure you have not done anything that Veritas would consider unsupported.
