Unable to create transform for extracted msi

Hi,

I am working on creating transform for an msi package but i face the below errors:

1) When I Install the setup.exe file using the domain id (with adminrights) credentials it shows the error as “ 1: The Install Script is missing from this machine. IF available, please run ISScript.msi, or contact your support personnel for further assistance”.

2) When I install the setup.exe file using domain id (with adminrights) credentials in command prompt using the below parameter it shows as “MainEngineThread is returning 1620” .
Msiexec /I “setup.exe” /quiet /l*v “C:\log.txt”

3) When I log into local administrator id and try to install the setup exe file it is installing and going to EULA Screen but in the EULA Screen “both I agree and I do not agree options are disabled”. So I am unable to install the extracted msi. This happens even when i log onto using domain id (with adminrights) credentials.

I dont know how to proceed further for creating the transform for the extracted msi.
Kindly advice.

When you extract, you might got ISSCRIPT.MSI file in the extracted files. If so, install that before installing you main MSI. Also while installing the main MSI, you need to pass the property ISSETUPDRIVEN=1 to fool the main MSI as if it is called by the setup and it is using the ISSCRIPT.

Hi,

After a long discussion we have got a new source from our client. Now i have created the msi from the new source. But when we install in network pc it removes the network services and pc is not able to ping or connect to a network. But if the same msi is installed in the another network pc it is working fine. Could anybody help me in this issue.

Thanks & Regards,

What you have forgotten to tell everybody above is that you're packaging a VPN client. See EdT's reply to the post in the Altiris WPS forum http://forums.altiris.com/messageview.aspx?catid=19&threadid=53964&enterthread=y

Hi,

Now i found out the exact problem in the creation of msi for Nortel VPN. When i install a source it puts one entry in Device manager under Network Adapter for nortel network. But the same is not being showned after installung the source EXE File. This is not being captured during setup capture. So this causes the packaged msi not to function properly. Could any one help me in this regard?

SetupCapture? Didn't you say that the VPN Client is already in MSI format? If so, capturing it to a new MSI can only end in tears. Persist in creating your transform.

Also, as per the link I posted previously, you CANNOT run an MSI from a network share if that MSI installs a new network client. You need to copy it locally and THEN execute it.

Hi,

As i said earlier now the new source which they have given is an exe. so i am going for setup capture. As i searched in net in one forum they told that the driver used nortel network vpn is unsigned one and cannot be packaged? Did any one have any idea about it?

It';s hard to believe that they would re-work an MSI-based package into a solely script-driven one. I'd bet that the EXe extracts one or more MSIs and executes MSIExec against it/them. You know by now how to check that.

Bizarre!

Anyhow, proceed as per any other EXE-driven install and capture it. If it turns out to be a driver, there's a "sticky" thread at the top of the forum page detailing how to package those.

hi,

I finally created the msi for nortel vpn client. Now i am facing the below two problems:

1) When i try to install the vpn from the msi i created it extracts an msi to C:\Document and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temp and installs the application from the msi extracted in this location.

2) After Installing the msi it removes the default network adapter and uses the installed network adapter but the source(EXE) doesnt do so.

Kindly advice me how to proceed further in creating msi for this apps.

Thanks & Regards,
S.Yuvaraj.

Hi,

Sorry for the mess created by me.

Here the filan problem of this apps is after the application is installed and rebooted it corrupts the entire network services of the desktop and unable to detect the ip itself.

Um....I think you need to do some research on what a VPN client is designed to do.
