USB Wizard - Wininstall package.
Hello. I have a package that I built in WinInstall for an HP Scanjet 4850. I only wanted the drivers to be installed with this package. I ran the discover, installed the drivers via the CD and the autoinstall wizard, and then ran the 2nd scan. I compressed the package (to make sure that the data was correct), and pushed the package back out to my test machine. The package installed fine, but when I connected the USB scanner, it did the discover, but prompted me for the file location of a specific .dll. I tried to register the dll using auto-register, and that didn't work. Can someone help me figure out my problem? What am I missing?

Hi milnesy,
I've found that packaging drivers is a bit hit and miss, the more useful approach (for me anyway) is to use either devcon.exe (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q311272), DPINST.exe and difxapp.msm (which are part of the Driver installation frameworks: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/install/DIFxApp.mspx). But for printers in particular, you can sometimes use good old rundll32.exe (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q189105/).
Hope that helps
