Visual Studio Ultimate 2012 - Silent Deployment, product documentation query

Hello

I have packaged and tested deployment of visual studio ultimate 2012 and update 2, this works ok, however when i open visual studio, it prompts “Do you want to download and install product documentation?”
This is to be deployed into a managed environment so the user would not be able to install this anyway.
is there a way to set it to web only documentation or include the documentation with the installation?

Thanks

  • What I would probably try is to launch Sysinternals Process Explorer and then launch Visual Studio 2012. When the prompt appears, I'd tell it that I want to download and install the documentation, then monitor what's happening in Process Explorer. That should show you where on the PC they download the documentation installer. I'd browse to that location in Windows Explorer and copy the installer somewhere safe, then see if I could repackage that to include with Visual Studio. If that didn't work, I'd try doing a setup capture of the documentation install and build my own installer for it. Chances are you won't have to go that far. Most of Microsoft's installers can be automated, if you can get a copy of them. - msalsbury 11 years ago

  • This DVD5 ISO image file on this page is provided for users who wish to create an installation DVD for Visual Studio 2012 product documentation, for example for offline installation by administrators. It is not designed for users who have internet access and wish to install documentation for local use on an individual computer. This DVD5 ISO image file does not include updates to the documentation that have been made since the product release. The ISO image file may be updated periodically. - jaybee96 11 years ago
  • Thanks for the replies. I ended up using the following reg fix

    REG.EXE ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\Help" /v DisableFirstRunHelpSelection /t reg_dword /d 1 - marge_simpson 11 years ago
