Seems that Symantec has discontinued their Wise Package Studio.
Somehow I was expecting this to happen ..sooner or later..

Goodbye Wise ...[:(]

short answer: InstallShield

slightly longer answer: and App-V, ThinApp, XenApp and others when we broaden the scope to Application Virtualisation. And then there's Desktop Virtualisation... I could go on...

I've 6 years experience with WPS and just quit my permanent job to go freelancing. This sucks! Because it is together with Orca the only tools that I know very well...

it is together with Orca the only tools that I know very well... Download the trial version of InstallShield. You get 30 days to play.

If you know Wise then you won't have much problems working with InstallShield. Overall these two tools are quite similar to each other.

Yup, I just spoke to our account manager, and... this was news --he wasn't informed of this in advance of the Barcelona announcement.

I'm stunned that I have refrained this long from saying "I don't like to say I told you so..." LOL

Joyous. Our sales rep, of course, kept assuring us that everything was fine and nothing was going to happen blah blah blah. I hate finding out about this stuff through a forum.

I just sent a note to Flexera concerning the 'new' software. Am I reading that's what it is? It looks like basically there's some version of their AdminStudio that will have WiseScript built in at some point? And on top of that, they're releasing a 'one last fling' service pack for the original Wise? At least that should buy us some time while we start migrating our 12+ years of packages to AdminStudio (sigh).

Official :
Dear Wise Package Studio Customer, At Symantec, our mission is to enable you to have confidence in your connected experiences. We deliver on this promise by protecting your core infrastructure, information, and digital interactions. Protecting and maintaining your client computing environment is an essential component of our mission. In November Symantec formally announced that development efforts for the Wise Package Studio product family will be discontinued. We have carefully developed a plan that will enable Wise Package Studio customers to migrate to a new product offering. We recognize this will be an inconvenience, but we are confident that the upgrade will be worth the effort. To continue providing you with world-class application packaging capabilities, we are excited to provide customers with industry-leading technology from Flexera Software™. AdminStudio for Symantec is a branded version of AdminStudio® from Flexera Software™. Symantec will offer three editions of AdminStudio for Symantec: Enterprise, Professional, and Standard. The three editions of AdminStudio for Symantec will include all of the functionality found in the traditional AdminStudio product plus functionality specifically developed for users of Altiris management suites and existing Wise Package Studio users. In addition, Symantec will also offer AdminStudio Virtualization Pack, an optional add-on that provides advanced packaging support for the application virtualization technologies from Microsoft (App-V), VMware (ThinApp) and Citrix (XenApp). As part of the notification, you should have received information on how to migrate from Wise Package Studio to AdminStudio for Symantec. The migration program will be offered from November 7, 2011, until November 7, 2012. Wise Package Studio licenses covered by current Essential Support or Basic Maintenance are eligible to migrate to a AdminStudio for Symantec. Migration to AdminStudio for Symantec will not affect your existing Wise Package Studio licenses. You may continue to use previously purchased Wise Package Studio licenses. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Symantec partner or account representative for more information. We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing to help manage and secure your IT environment. Best Regards, Symantec Corporation

Teitan, VBScab. Thanks for the info. It's a coincident but at the moment I'm dropped into a job using Flexera Adminstudio.
They had no problem with my WPS background.I was a little bit overwhelmed by the new big rich interface and new stuff,
but they use only a part of it, although I still like to use my old wise macro's (which should be rewritten in pure vbscript to
open an external msi) for a check...
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
