Note

Be aware of an issue with HipChat version 4 on some systems that after install completes, the application crashes right on startup. The crash is due to outdated video drivers. Atlasssian is aware of this and suggests a quick workaround to add the switch --disable-gpu within the target of the applications properties. Or update your video drivers which in my case, did not solve the issue.

I created an install.cmd file to install HipChat via WPKG and included the modified shortcut.lnk to be added after install and to kill the hipchat.exe process after install as it wants to run the app after it finsihes install. This alleviates the crash when the end user opens up HipChat.

msiexec /i %SOFTWARE%\HipChat\hipchat.msi ALLUSERS=1 /qn /norestart

xcopy /y "%SOFTWARE%\HipChat\hipchat.lnk" "C:\Users\Public\Desktop"

# TASKKILL /f /im hipchat.exe

Note

Finally,

Atlassian HipChat has the Updates disabled.

DO NOT USE THE Vendor given Executable to install HipChat.

Vendor is giving out the MSI for disabling the updates.

Edit the config.ini file located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Atlassian\HipChat4
Change "check_for_EXE_updates=true" to "check_for_EXE_updates=false" if it is set to true.

Added to that you have disable the launch upon Installation

so that it does not create a mess when you are deploying the software.
