Note
I had to pass some more paramteres to the installer.
So I first ran

setup.exe -nos_ne

which extracts the msi to the temp directory, you can also specify the path using

setup.exe -nos_ne -nos_o"Path"

I then used InstallShield to look at the MSI Property Table and found the Installer Settings I needed to tweak, namely to remove the checkmarks from "Update Now" and "Run On-Demand Scan". My installer line was then

MSIEXEC /Ivse800.msi REBOOTPROMT=Suppress REBOOT=ReallySuppress RUNAUTOUPDATE=False RUNONDEMANDSCAN=False /qb-

Note
I used Network Associated Installation Designer 8.0.0 to compile a silent install for VirusScan 8.0.0. The only real difficulty I had was finding a copy of the Installation Designer, Network Associates no longer support this software. I found a copy by doing a google search for it.

So after you install Installation Designer 8.0.0, run it. Follow the options and you will get a nice little setup.exe that you can deploy silently. Also you can choose not to create an optimized installation, and that will give you a nice .msi file to deploy as well. One of the things I liked was that this was so easy to use and I didn't have to waste my time trying to package this.

Note

Note that you must use the setup.exe to run this installation silently - not the MSI. If you use the MSI you risk running into the much maligned driver signing message.

Note
Hi
I install VirusScan via Active Directory using this method:

1) Run setup.exe /a and extract msi to temp folder
2) Link MSI file via Active Directory as normal
3) Done!!

This only sets the update at 17.00 and does not schedual the machine scan.

Note

after you install the virus scan if you go to "C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\RepairCache" you will find the msi that will install it. just copy the msi into the install files and it will run

Its a MSI based package. Mcafee also gives a customizing tool for enterprise deployment called Installation Designer 8.5. You can download it from mcafee.com. Each & every minor setting your can configure before you deploy the application.

Note
For an automated install of VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i I did the following:

1. Create an installation package using the McAfee Installation Designer. The one I created was not silent as I wanted a progress bar to display.

2. Run setupvse.exe /qb+

The setup runs displaying the progress bar and gives a completion notice when it is done.

Note

Deploying like an adapted list of exclusions after initial rollout in an organisation without ePo server to manage settings is still possible by creating a registryfile and importing it, but if settingsprotection is on you will need to stop/kill the McShield service first.

My method :

- grab yourself the PsTools from (used to be Sysinternals), now microsoft and deploy psexec to the target-machine(s)

then script the following :

<path to>\psexec.exe /AcceptEULA -s %systemroot%\system32\sc.exe STOP MCSHIELD
regedit.exe /s myexclusions.reg
<path to>\psexec.exe /AcceptEULA -s %systemroot%\system32\sc.exe START MCSHIELD

I have used it in combination with Zenworks Configuration Management 10

i deploy psexec.exe to %winsysdir%\system32\

the /acceptEULA switch suppresses the eula popup and continues to execute the rest of the commandline

Crude, but functional.
