2.Get a copy of the Windows Desktop Search Administration Guide at the above site
3.Get a copy of the .adm file for Windows Group Policy. The installation installation configuration and client settings are configured in this Policy. The only switches for the executable are /Extract and /Passive.
4.Get a copy of the WindowsDesktopSearch-KB907371-V2X86-ENU.
5.Through MMC (Microsoft Management Console) add the snap in for Editing a Group Policy
6.Edit the adm file you downloaded in Notepad and removing the initial comments. Save it as WindowsDeskopSearch.adm
7.Import adm file into Local Computer Policy \ User Configuration \ Administrative Templates. Edit the Setup, Index, or Search settings as you see fit.
8.The settings are saved in HKCU\Software\Policies. In my case since I wasnt passing these settings through Group Policy so I exported the registry keys.
9.You may want to add the Adobe PDF filter that allows for the search engine to search PDF files. ifilter60.exe
10.My three command lines in my VB script look like this:
11. You will want to create your own custom settings but my Registry keys (from the Group Policy) looks like this [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\DesktopSearch]

12. The uninstall string can be found in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall\Windows Search
Nice tool that will search the first mb of the content of the file. Make sure your clients know how to add drives to this tool and how important it is to reindex frequently.
