I'm going on just over a year in the realm of systems management. All of this time has been with a Dell KACE K1000. Initially there were some growing pains as I figured out the strengths and weaknesses of the appliance. Now I cannot imagine getting my job done without it. What's your favorite aspect of using Dell KACE? What do you dislike most about it? Is KACE the best thing you've ever used, or do you wish you were still using another solution? If so, why? Share some, share all if you want.
The excitement was short lived when the production appliance arrived. We tried to perform 3rd party patching, and initially it seemed to break more things than it fixed. The same was true for managed installs. There was a point that all we were excited about using was the help desk and inventory functions. That was until we opted for additional training. I attended KACE user conference 2012 and soaked everything in. It was a great experience to be around other KACE users and share experiences with the appliance.
Had it not been for attending the user conference and the boot camps I think we'd still be contemplating how to best use it as a paper weight. Currently we have over 30 live scripts enabled, 10 managed installs at any point in time, 3 help desk queues for different department services, 3rd party patching, and the start of some asset management.
Ultimately what makes this system the best for our business goes beyond just the price of the appliance (with support and licenses), it's the user base and the IT Ninja community that really make it stand out. When we were ready to pitch the appliance out the window, support pulled through and resolved our issues. Having it for over a year now, I cannot wait to see what direction they take this product in. - GeekSoldier 11 years ago
Please note that the Patch Management system is not as good as WSUS and you wont be able to find all the MS updates for Windows and Office.

If that's the case, reference these articles. Usually, any missing patches for Office and the like can be added if you request it from support.
How soon after their release will patches be available for me to install from the K1000-series appliance?
