Microsoft previewed of some of the up and coming features of Windows 8.1, aka “Windows Blue“.
The preview release of Microsoft Windows 8.1 is set for 26 June, where as the GA build is due to release wait for it, sometime in 2013.
With most hardware networking features like wireless display support, printing via Wi-Fi, and proximity also known as tap to pair printing over near field communications.
The release will also allow users to tether other devices to the Windows PC’s broadband connection, and will include and application programming interface for third-party system and device management software providers. The will allow VPN connectivity to be built directly into their applications.
System administrators will also get a feature allowing managed business data to be remotely wiped from devices while leaving personal data behind, as well as support for the Open MDM mobile device management (MDM) technology. “Open Mobile Alliance Device Management" capabilities are built into the OS and enable mobile-device management using third-party MDM solutions.
Windows 8.1 is also adding in some new security feature that will allow for multi-factor authentication which will take advantage of features like fingerprint biometrics as well as better support for Virtual Smart Cards. Windows Defender is stated to have feature built in to improve network monitoring capabilities.
