I came across a great tool to easily create visually appealing reports for our company. Having seen multiple threads on the limitations on KACE reporting I wanted to pass along this information in hopes that it may help someone.
- First, follow Dell's guide on installing an ODBC driver on your computer. I suggest the V5.2.X ODBC driver.
https://support.software.dell.com/k1000-systems-management-appliance/kb/114992 - Second, download Power BI Desktop from Microsoft.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45331 - Open Power BI Desktop and when you're ready to link your K1000's database follow these steps.
1. Get Data
2. Choose MySQL Database
Unless you have changed you Report User's credentials for you K1000, use the default credentials below
Server: 10.10.0.X (You K1000's IP address)
Username: R1
Password: box747
Database: ORG1 (Unless you have other ORGs configured) - Done! Now you can create visually appealing reports!
Thank you for sharing this. I am new to the Dell Kace community. I am responsible for a Service Desk migration to Dell Kace Service Desk. I plan on taking advantage of the many useful and practical resources this community has to offer. However, I have to say until I ran into this report solution I wasn't as enthusiastic as I am now to find out more about this Power BI Desktop. I am going to investigate it, learn it, play with it and see if I can get anything close to what you have demonstrated in this thread. Once I understand what I am talking about I would love the chance to find out more of how this works should I need some input from you. Your report is something I have been after for a long time but none of the tools of previous service desk systems have been able to allow me to create. Thank you for this input. I will get to work. - gvega 8 years ago
Happy I could be of some help! If you ever have any questions post them and I would be happy to try and answer them! - MAXintosh 8 years ago
I've ODBC configured with MYSQL connector and it tests successfully.
It's the PowerBI Gateway bit that won't connect.
Worth mentioning it connects to other SQL instances successfully.
Here is a bit of the error:
-2147467259
Underlying error message: MySQL: We were unable to find a database provider with invariant name 'MySql.Data.MySqlClient'
Any guidance you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
