Setup Commander Beta Updates

Setup Commander helps you to create deployment packages by either dynamically detecting installation options, or in many cases, providing a simple wizard to dictate installation options for which you might otherwise be unaware. I wrote about Bundle Commander before, which is a similar offering geared toward ZenWorks users (and includes an integrated ITNinja search feature). The "Setup Commander" edition is meant for the rest of us using tools like the Dell KACE K1000, RES Automation Manager or Group Policy

Below is a video showing off its Configuration Manager/MDT integration, but even if you are not a SCCM user, watching this gives you a good look at what the tool can do as it runs through the quick creation of several packages presenting a simple Custom Installation Wizard for several of them along the way (by that I mean that for some of the applications, you'll see a single dialog of application specific installation options).

In the latest release, an new feature called Application Setup Center adds the ability to discover and download the latest version of several common applications right within the tool. For screen shots and more details on the Application Setup Center feature see its official blog post here

  • Thanks for the tip. For use with KACE the standard licensing should work right? - GeekSoldier 11 years ago
    • I'm not quite sure what you mean. This is not a KACE product and as such is sold and supported completely separate from KACE. At their site, I don't see any mention of "standard licensing". See http://www.setupcommander.com/index.php/store - bkelly 11 years ago
      • My apologies and you may disregard. I misunderstood the difference between their standard edition and their professional edition. I was thinking there may be an edition requirement to use their product with a KACE appliance, but it looks like it hinges more on what you'd like to do with the extent and type of packages that need to be created. - GeekSoldier 11 years ago
