Allowing Users to check for Windows Updates

We would like to allow users to check online for Windows Updates when needed, even though KACE patch Management is in place.  Right now, they receive the error "Windows Update cannot check for updates, because updates on this computer are controlled by your system administrator."  Has anyone found a way around this?

  • Is there a GPO in place that restricts such behavior? Are your users local administrators? - rockhead44 8 years ago
  • The GPO disables Windows Updates from the Clients end. This enables the K1000 to take over Patch Management. - joseph.belanger@nichols.edu 8 years ago
    • remove the GPO and either the user or the k1 can update the system, you do not need to disable this to allow patching to work. - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago
  • Got it. Will this still block the patch to prompt to upgrade to Windows 10? - joseph.belanger@nichols.edu 8 years ago
    • no but you can use the kbox to run this tool from GRC. You can also do into the registry and make these changes but this tool does it for you.
