Associating barcodes with assets in

I work at a small university and have uploaded all of our printers as assets into Kace. Our printers are managed by a third party company and come with a machine ID and barcode already applied to the printers. I have used the five-digit machine ID number as the asset name but would like to be able to incorporate the barcode into the asset tracker. I know that there is a barcode reader in the Kace Go app. But how do I upload the image of the barcode into the asset information to associate it and have the ability to scan it with my phone?

So I am also trying to find you a decent solution using the Go app, at the time of my first answer I was not able to test any solutions. Now I am in the office I have spent the last 20 mins trying a, to get the Go app to work at a reasonable speed and b, to see if I can associate a barcode to an existing asset....mission finally accomplished!!

in the Go app click the "scan barcode" button on the home screen

Scan the barcode and then select the option to add the barcode to an existing asset

Select your printer asset and the value will be added in as, probably, the Dell Service Tag value within the asset,

You could also have used the option to create a new asset if you had not already created the asset records.

But just as a hint, if the Go app is too slow and painful for you to use, there is a solution for barcoding that is more efficient, function rich, process aligned and compatible with optional laser scanning devices.....just click here for more information.

So go to your Asset, scroll to the bottom and in the Barcodes section click the blue plus to add a barcode value

When you now scan that value with your Go app it will associate that with the asset record of that printer

  • I was making it too difficult! Thank you!! My app wasn't too bad and now we can start printing our own barcodes and take this beyond printers! - merrington 7 years ago
    • Good luck, you'll find the Go app will only address Devices and Device subtypes though so go carefully - Hobbsy 7 years ago
