Automating adblock installation in chrome?

I'm trying to automate installation of adblock in Chrome (to support an elementary school class).

I've looked at & tried the registry manipulation method ... but it doesn't look to me like

Chrome 22 supports the registry, I had to add the whole chain of keys from *\Google on down.

Nothing happened, either: no complaints, no extension in chrome://chrome/extensions.

Has anyone done this or the json/preferences installation successfully, or have other ideas?

I only know how to install extension manually, maybe you can write a script to do it automatically

manual:

you can unzip anychrome extension file (.crx) with 7Zip then if  you go in chrome you can type chrome:extensions and check the developer mode then you can install the extension manually
