Exe in a MSI
HI All,
I have an MSI that has a CA that runs another install . In the custom action all I see is an install set property and guessing the exe stored in binary table. And the property value is installtype=notransaction /action=install /logfile=/targetdirectory="TARGETDIR}\""[#_somevalue]""[Someconfigfile]"
I am not getting anything from this info.
My question is, I want to install silently the MSI. On QB and QN the install proceeds silently and in the end pops a window to agree and accept license to install the app inbuilt in the MSI.
I want to run it silently. I tried most of the switches and also ACCEPT LICENSE. and worked.

Grab the EXE that's called by the custom action and attempt to install it on it's own. You may be able to determine if it has a silent way to install it. If so, either install it before the primary app or modify the CU command line with the silent switches
Also contact the vendor to explain your situation and see if they have a silent process for the whole thing.

I grabbed it, which I get after the first half of the install under program files. But no luck in installing silently, or no MSI I get from that. - shamu 8 years ago

If it's a exe, why s don't you repackage it it into a msi and delete the CA? - rileyz 8 years ago

I tried repackaging , and got the MSI. The CA seems tricky I don't seem to get any info out of it, but otherwise too, gave a shot. it does not work. But if I install the exe that I got and install the msi over it, the install does not show the pop up. And if I need to install the exe silently. don't know what the msi looks for. - shamu 8 years ago

Upload the vendor msi somewhere so I can look at it. - rileyz 8 years ago
