There are a few vendor provided tools for determining if their card is present. If you have a mixed environment, you could find that they don't work on all platforms. Here are a couple of PCI detection utilities that have been found, if you know of more please let us know!
- PCISCAN by Bart Lagerweij available here can be used to automatically detect what network card is present. With this information, you can create a single boot disk capable of loading network drivers for a variety of vendors. An excellent example is available here.Â
- PCICFG by Ralf Brown can be found inside the download for RBPCI. This program claims to display lots of information about the PCI-bus devices inside a computer. All device-specific data is stored in editable text files for ease of updates.
