How do I image the Latitude 3180?

Hello Team,

I got a new model that they want to introduce. It’s the New Latitude 3180. The hardware is spec with a 64GB eMMC Hard Drive. We had some issues booting into KACE, but we finally got it. We used the USB KBE along with a USB to Ethernet. It deploys the image with no issues. After the reboot, it doesn’t load. It’s like it doesn’t detect the drive. It does load the drivers after it deploys the image.

I had to do a dell recovery to reload the OS again. Do I need to make an image straight from this model? I know this model is new, but I was wondering if anyone encounter issues with this type of drive.

64GB eMMC Hard Drive

Thank you

  • joeysparrow, it sounds like the laptop is using UEFI and your image is standard Bios. UEFI uses a different HDD partition setup. - jboling 7 years ago
  • I have a surface image that I tried and got the same result.

I have this as my pre-install

    Select disk 0
    Clean
    Convert gpt
    Create partition efi size=200
    Assign letter=s
    Format quick fs=FAT32
    Create partition msr size=128
    Create partition primary
    Assign letter=c
    Format quick fs=NTFS
    Exit

    Post

    bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=s:
    bcdedit /set {memdiag} device partition=s:
    bcdedit /set {default} device partition=c:
    bcdedit /set {default} osdevice partition=c:
    Bcdedit /set {FWbootmgr} displayorder {Bootmgr} /addfirst

Does anything above look off? - joeysparrow 7 years ago
  • The POST task should actually be a mid task:
    Type:
    BAT Script
    Runtime Environment:
    K2000 Boot Environment (Windows)
    BAT Script:

    bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=s:
    bcdedit /set {memdiag} device partition=s:
    bcdedit /set {default} device partition=c:
    bcdedit /set {default} osdevice partition=c:
    Bcdedit /set {FWbootmgr} displayorder {Bootmgr} /addfirst - Desktop Jockey 7 years ago
  • What if we don't want' to do UEFI and want to use legacy BIOS shouldn't this work, it won't even boot to KBE keeps rebooting for me - balcinovic21 7 years ago
    • Personally, I don't see any technical or security advantage in regards using legacy instead of UEFI

It's like troubleshooting to use something that it's on it's way out - Channeler 7 years ago
