How to automatically populate a custom asset field during inventory ?

Hi all,

I am currently retrieving information on the device using custom inventory rules and it's working fine.
(for example sake and context to my question, i am doing my tests with the Teamviewer ID of the windows client, which can be easily retrieved from the registry)
Now, what i would like to do is display this information in the "Inventory > Device" page as a column in the table.

I've seen it's possible to add new asset field (using the page "Asset Management > Asset Types > edit type 'Device') and displaying it on the Inventory page.
But this new asset field seems to be filled manually and i can't find a way to automatically populate this field either from the custom inventory rule or by any other mean/query.

For now i'm trying with teamviewer ids but i may add other custom fields as well later on.

Is it feasible and if yes, how ?

Thanks for your help

This is not possible, in fact there is a post in the Quest's user-voice portal

There are only five votes tough....., you might want to sign in, vote and comment why this is a great feature to have in the future.

As a workaround, you could create a device label to filter devices with that inventory rule.

See this one as the most common example:

In that scenario, someone is trying to pull the specific IE version for each device, this is achievable using a custom inventory rule, and pulling the info via Windows Registry.

But it is not possible to add field  or column like "IE Version" to the device's table..

I'm not positive, but it sounds like you are trying to add the "Teamviewer ID" custom inventory field as a column when viewing Devices in the Inventory. If that is the case, then click on the Gear icon in the upper right corner above the table, select Column Visibility and then select the field.

If you want to populate asset data with custom inventory fields, it is possible using service desk rules, but it isn't supported.
