Installing Lync 2013 with Office SP1 and Skype update trouble

Anyone successfully carried out a single deployment of this that is guaranteed to work? Mine is failing with 1642 errors saying required software to install the update is not present. It has worked on roughly half of the PCs we have pushed it to but fails on the other half. All I need is a reliable way to get it deployed!

Current deployment installs Lync Basic 2013, SP1 for Office 2013 and then the Skype for Business patches.

  • Need more information, are you using ISO or Office Deployment Tool (Click-to-Run/Office365).

Is Office 2013 already on the PCs? - rileyz 9 years ago
    • We are using Office.deployment tool to create an installer fir.Lync 2013 basic. The page then rums office 2013 SP1 to prepare Lync for the Skype for Business.2015 update patch. This fails to.install and user is left.with Lync 2013. - racshade42 9 years ago

      • I don't know what media you're using.

Office Deployment Tool uses Click-to-Run media, which is totally different from the ISO media. Your post states you have a 1642 error, which looks like a MSI error, leading me to believe you are using the ISO media with a xml.config. But the you mention ODT, so i'm confused.

Can you give a breakdown of what deployment is using which media please.

I hope you're not driving and typing, lol. - rileyz 9 years ago
  • I've found the issue. Its working on machine with no office 2013 software installed and failing on those that have it. Office SP1 is failing to run as it believes it's already installed. I now have to find a way around that. - racshade42 9 years ago
  • About SKB, make sure you the Microsoft Product License for Office and Outlook are updated before you update to Skype for Business.
    SKB uses a 2016 license
We have 2010 and 2012 licenses for Office and Outlook. A team member's Office 2010 Professional running on Windows 7 Enterprise had not been activated. After installing SKB and putting in the MS Product Key, Any attempt to open Office resulted in it getting closed immediately. Never allowing for a chance to enter the Product Key. Had to uninstall and re-install office to fix. - cbemerine 8 years ago

Kindly give some more inputs. From my understanding, I think your requirement is to update lync to Skype for business.

lyncmso2013-kb3039779-fullfile-x86-glb.exe is the patch to update lync to Skype for business. /quiet /norestart can be used to install the patch silently.

Install Microsoft Lync 2013 (x86) first as it is a pre-requisite for this patch. Restart is required after patch install.

Dear Racshade42,

on my side i have unzipped office 2013 into folder, i have prepared my package from setup.exe /admin to create an MSP file (prepare on it your configuration)
i put updates of my lync on folder "updates"
i have this -> lync-x-none.msp

lync 2013 will be updated to skype for business 2015 automatically
