K2000 - USMT scan question

Hello, wanted to see if there is a way to restrict what user states can be exported and imported from a source machine to put into the destination machine? For e.g. if a machine has had users who are no longer with the company we don't want to move their profiles over to a new Windows 10 machine

Thanks

  • The Scan template has an option to scan all users or select which ones to scan.

That means you will have to manually select what profiles you want to keep before starting the deployment.

If want to do this automatically... that would need some kind of good\custom XML scan template. - Channeler 5 years ago
  • Thanks Channeler for the answer. Are you aware where I can get these XML templates? - kace_admin 5 years ago
    • You have to build them...

      See:
      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/usmt/usmt-xml-reference

      and

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/usmt/usmt-scanstate-syntax

If you want to select the profiles manually, go to library, edit your Scan template, and remove the checkbox from "Captured all user states", removing that will force USMT to ask you which one of the detected profiles in the Device, you would like to keep. - Channeler 5 years ago
  • I am interested to know how you can run USMT with KACE. Last year I ended up writing a script to displace a PowerShell GUI Form that displayed two list widows within the form. First window: listed all user accounts on the PC, giving you the option to select one user, a few users, or all users (using ExportAll Button) and running the scanstate process. Second window: listed all exported user accounts, which you select one user, a few users, or all users (using ImportAll Button) and running the loadstate process. Via USB/External hard drive/Network Share

Please share how USMT can be done with KACE. Thank you! - ranchristian 5 years ago
    • Hi Ranchristian, did you mean how to capture only a select group of users from a PC or all the users from a PC? - kace_admin 5 years ago
      • The GUI Form displays all the users on the PC, and displays all of them in a list to select from. The GUI Form that I created is designed to allow the tech choose one user, or 5 out 7 users, or if tech needs to pull "scanstate" all 7 users then the tech can click the ImportAll button, instead of selecting one user, or the 5 out of 7 users and then clicking the Import button. - ranchristian 5 years ago
    • FYI, we are talking about USMT with the KACE SDA (formerly known as K2000), not the KACE SMA (formerly known as K100).

with the SDA you can upload the USMT tool into the server directly from the Microsoft's ADK tools.
