manually deleting driver folders/files from drivers_postinstall

I can't manually remove/delete driver folders/files fromthe drivers_postinstall directory.

I have entered many Dell system drivers into the drivers_postinstall section of the K2000 and they have worked great - until now.  I suspect there was a driver I copied over that is corrupted and when I run a scripted install it returns an error: line 44 of the INF file \$WIN_NT$.~BT\winnt.sif is invalid.  At this time setup stops and if I exit it out it just loops.

I have tried other models and scripted installs work fine so I know its this model drivers.  But I can't delete them.  Any ideas?  I've purged the server, recached drivers and even rebooted.  No luck.  Something must be holding them.

can you at least rename the directory?

  • Yes. Still can't delete it. - rjobe 11 years ago
    • I suspect you will have to contact support, if it has an invalid file pointer you will not be able to delete it. You should be able to delete all the other files from this directory.
      At least with it renamed you should be able to put a new folder back so your scripted install will find the correct drivers. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • Are you able to delete the contents at least? I have seen where the parent folder gets this type of treatment but the other folders do not. Still want to contact Support to have them sort out the issue as it could be a permissions issue. - andrew_lubchansky 11 years ago

Contact support. There was a bug in the previous release that wouldn't allow you to delete some folders.

//even rebooted.//

Did you try removing the folder through command prompt in safe mode..

The workaround for this issue is to download and install something to your driver feed... after that you should be able to rename the folders.

That did the trick for me!!

Had this same error: line 44 of the INF file \$WIN_NT$.~BT\winnt.sif is invalid after uploading new XP source media that had updates integrated. Resolved it with a recache of all  drivers on the K2000.

Nah..... There is still NO fix for this yet... I created a ticket with support about this, they remoted in our K2 box deleted the 3 folders I wanted, and closed their ticket.... I'm truly amazed a simple function like deleting a folder is an issue... You can see someone complain about this all the way back in 2009...... NICE !

  • well, I was referring to the fact of renaming folder rather than deleting them.... I haven't need to delete folder yet, I guess I'll have this issue as well. - lucher 11 years ago

  • Has anyone applied the new 3.5.80613 update and checked to see if the problem was resolved as part of the update? - rjobe 11 years ago
