Pro's & Con's to wiping a software catalog?
Hello,
To start I will say that I inherited a KACE SMA last year and have worked very hard to get it into a working production powerhouse. I have removed hundreds of PCs and stale accounts and replaced with new hardware and a standard Enterprise image. Now that I have the backing of the managers I will be removing all local admin permissions. With this move I would like to essentially "clean" all history of software and let KACE rebuild the catalog before I start the real software cleanup and blocking.
So my question for the more advanced KACE admins, what are the cons of this decision?
Note: I don't care about what we had installed, I only care about what we have now. If KACE will just rebuild the catalog on the next inventory, What am I really losing?
Thank you in advance.

You can reinstall it on the settings page instead of wiping manually.

Just work for you if are using metering you have to set all that up again. You will have to reestablish any Distributions also. Even if you delete everything you will get all those software entries back with a zero count not just what is on the machines when they inventory. The catalog will re-download updates when it does it nightly checks and that is populated with the all those items - SMal.tmcc 5 years ago
the software catalog can be used for metering, software deployment etc.
SO if you don't use this, you will not loose anything.
The software items of installed software is not linked to the catalog itself.
You can also delete them but I suggest to check it before since also software items you may need for Distributions and Custom Inventory Rules may be affected then.
If you want to start new reset the appliance and rund a GPO which runs amptools -retrust on the clients so they checkin new into the appliance
