Re-map Assets with Inventory
Hello Ninjas! We have Assets populated with the wrong mapping field (System Name). I would like to remap them to BIOS Serial Number... Is there any smooth way to do it, and if I change the mapping field, I guess it would re-add every devices with an agent, which would be ok but license-wise is there any issue? Like we have 460 devices in it for 500 licenses and don't want to buy more just for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just change the field and the SMA should take care of it. We always recommend in the device asset type to add in a field “Serial Number” then map the inventory field “BIOS Serial Number” to the Serial Number field in the device asset type.
In the Asset, this leaves the machine name as the Asset Name but links on serial number, so if a device name changes the asset name change is made and recorded in history, but the correct link is maintained, so no duplicate assets!!
Make the changes and as devices check in, the SMA will update for you.
